The abomassum is where the actual digestion of the grasses and grains the cow has ingested takes place. Green tripe contains the partially digested plant matter the cow had eaten as well as the naturally occurring gastric juices and digestive enzymes. Tripe can be a little smelly when you first open the can, but the smell dissipates. Your do not have to give the entire can per meal. A 50 pound dog needs only two heaping tablespoons mixed with dry food. For smaller dogs, use only one heaping tablespoon.
